Brides Turn To Romance

Thursday July 17, 2008

WEDDING gown trends have revealed a return to romance, with lace, beading and feminine silhouettes proving popular for the modern bride.

But brides have turned away from the simple sheath dresses with minimal detail popular in the past, according to Cosmopolitan Bride magazine Associate Editor Nicole Robinson.

"We're seeing dresses with a lot more detail. Beading, scalloped edges, bows." Robinson said.

"We're also seeing a return to warmer tones, like cream or latte," she said.

"It's really a modern take on traditional, which is perfect for a garden wedding, or a church wedding."

This fresh take on conventional bridal style was seen in the most recent designer wedding collections to hit the international catwalk.

Renowned United States wedding gown designer Vera Wang chose bows and fabric flowers, to grace asymmetrical necklines and dramatic silhouettes.

New York designer Carolina Herrera's regal creations, inspired by Marie Antoinette, featured elegant capes, fur trim, ruching and lace.

The latest in bridal fashion in the region can be seen at the Illawarra Mercury Bridal Expo, at WIN Entertainment Centre.

Models will hit the catwalk twice at Sunday's Expo, to showcase looks perfect for women on the hunt for their dream dresses.

Robinson said modern brides increasingly were looking for wedding attire that expressed their own personal taste.

"Brides are being a lot more original, they want their stamp on their dress," she said.

Celebrity style continued to impact on bridal trends, with many brides-to-be borrowing heavily from red carpet looks.
